What is a nurse?


Previously in Germany Nursing training have been separated in various fields, such as; geriatric nurses, intensive nurses as well as Pediatric nurses. Since 2020, all these professions has been combined under the collective term nursing specialist (pflegefachmann/frau).

The training as a nurse serves to impart the skills and abilities that are necessary to support people in need in daily life and in special situations. After completion of the 3 years training, the graduates are responsible for tasks in the nursing and consulting sector.

The old job title "nurse" is still reminiscent of human closeness and Christian charity. The new job title "nursing specialist" brings more professional nursing competence to the fore, because a nursing specialist is a nursing specialist with his own, scientifically based nursing knowledge and skills.


The difference between a Nursing apprenticeship und Bsc Nursing 

1.) Nursing Ausbildung- This is the most famous program for youngsters. They call it a Vocational Program or Apprenticeship Training. Students get training at hospitals, pediatrics, nursing centers, and elderly homes for the experience. The trainer provides a monthly stipend up to 1300 Euro to the trainee/attendee.

The placement and training providers of the Ausbildung center do not charge any extra fees. Students get complete knowledge of the course. For Ausbildung program. This Ausbildung program is under state control. Completing an apprenticeship leads to approval by the state as a “Nursing Specialist”. Nurses with a vocational degree can apply for following roles:
1.) Nephrology
2.) Hygiene
3.) Clinical geriatrics
4.) Psychiatric Center
5.) Endoscopy and operation services and more..

2.) BSc Nursing – In this program the universities provide education with simultaneous placement at hospitals. BSc nursing in Germany is a dual program.This program provides a degree at one end and training at the other. Students get early experience by practicing at hospitals. There is no tuition fee for the course. However you don't get paid. In addition, nurses can also work as a teacher in vocational schools. Hence, you can study BSc nursing in Germany. Nurses with university bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree apply for:
1.) Social and health services
2.) In-home care specialist
3.) Care consultants and experts

In Germany, to become a nurse, you will have to study for a period of three years. There are two options to getting a nursing degree in Germany: you can complete a vocational school or pursue a university degree. Can I study nursing in English in Germany?


Studying nursing in Germany requires basic knowledge of Germany, atleast a minimum of B1 level.

In Germany, the minimum age to start an Ausbildung (vocational training) is typically 16 years old. There is no maximum age limit, allowing individuals of any age to participate. Some programs may permit younger applicants with special approval.
 

The Entry Requirements for Nursing in Germany for Foreigners Language Proficiency

 

To work as a nurse in Germany, it's important to have at least a B2 level of proficiency in the German language. Communication with patients will mainly be in German, so being able to speak the language well is one of the essential requirements for nursing in Germany. As a nurse, you will learn how to take care of sick patients and provide comfort during their recovery. Please note that getting a school only, is not sufficient to start the nursing program. Applicants as well needs to have a training place to be able to begin the ausbildung, this could be a retirement home, Hospital, house care or care homes. Depending on the school plan, you have to attend school some days and the rest days at work.
